Constitutional Challenge

On June 4, 2015, the Society of Energy Professionals (as it then was) launched a constitutional challenge  following two years of resistance by Legal Aid Ontario to recognize the right of LAO Lawyers to collectively bargain as enshrined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

I, along with 7 other colleagues, was a named applicant in that challenge against LAO. I was the sole affiant in that challenge.

In August of 2016, after the filing of my affidavits and following months of intense political pressure, LAO requested to postpone my testimony in order to engage in resolution discussions. Following those negotiations, LAO agreed to enter into a voluntary recognition agreement with the Society of United Professionals.

Copies of the Notice of Application of the Constitutional Challenge and my affidavits are linked below.
